I’m very excited to review this “Boredom-Busting, Zero-Prep Team Builders” book written by Susan Ragsdale and Ann Saylor. As a school counselor, professional speaker and former homeschooler, I can appreciate the value in using team building games to accentuate a point. And of course, the fact it gets people laughing is a tremendous benefit as well.
Great Group Games describes 175 entertaining, easy-to-facilitate activities that get youth or adults moving as they learn. And the games are organized into six stages of group development. So during the first few weeks I work with students this year, I’ll be marking the pages in Stage 1.
Each fun and thoroughly-described activity is organized for quick identification of time and supplies required. Most games are easily adapted to whatever discussion you’re wanting to have, simply by changing a few of the questions asked or topics discussed. This will be very handy for group leaders wishing to address a specific topic. And thoughtful discussion questions are provided for the purpose of “going deeper” into the topic.
Another useful feature in the book is an alphabetized grid in the appendix, which indicates which of the games require supplies, as well as requirements for risk level, energy level and location (inside or outside.) Five minutes before I’m supposed to facilitate a highly effective youth leadership group, I’ll be relieved to have Great Group Games on my shelf!
Asset Builders will be happy to know that the games are also tagged with related asset categories. When you’re trying to drive home a message about one particular asset category, you’ll have many potential activities to accomplish the task.
Great Group Games is an awesome resource for educators and school counselors, church youth groups, after school programming, youth leadership groups, conference sessions, youth trainings and adult inservices.
I’m so glad it’s on my shelf, and lucky for you, the authors are giving an autographed copy of Great Group Games to one of YOU!

I would love to win this. Working in Student Affairs at a college we are always looking for group activities to get the students connecting with one another in positive ways. Outside of my main responsibilities I also sit on the youth and education committee at my church and with this again we are always trying to find ways to connect our church youth together in fun and interactive ways!
I hope I win this one!!!

This would be a great resource for me! I work with youth often in my church and also enjoy being part of womens ministry on occasion. I am also from a very large family (oldest of 13 children) and am always looking for fun things to do when we’re together, which is rare as more and more reach adulthood and more responsibilities. It is hard to find things that are fun and yet meaningful. Thank you for the chance to win!!

This would be a great way for my daughter to interact with other children since she has no siblings thus far. Great giveaway, thanks!

I’m one of the people for putting together the monthly program for the local twins club. Some meetings are more social in nature and it sounds like this book would be a nice resource to help come up with some new “games” to help us get to know each other better and/or just have fun together as a group. Thanks,

I’d love this. I do a lot of training/team building at work and the games in this book would be so helpful in getting class started.

I attend a 12 step group for the adult children of alcoholics (ACA). Twice a year I help organize and coordinate a retreat for the same group and others in the area. We are always looking for ice breakers and group activities for our retreats and this book would be a great resource to have for that purpose.

This would be a great resource for me! I am a new school counselor at a K-8 elementary school. I have very few resources on group work but I am hoping to implement several groups this year. These activities seem like they would be a good fit for my middle school kids who are difficult to engage!

I am part of a homeschool coop and I am leading the team building/team challenge class each week. This would be a great resource. I am also a den mother to my son’s wolf cubscouts. I am always on the hunt for activities to enrich the den’s scouting experience.
I need all the ideas I can get as I am transitioning out of the toddler and early school years to the older child experiences. It seems like as soon as you get something down with your kids, they grow more and you have to grow with them. Thanks.

This would be useful to plan activities for my students, colleagues, and family!

I have taught for 13 years in a rural, small K-12 school. I recently took a position in the school as the only counselor and it’s a 50% position. So. . .I am counselor in the morning and teacher in the afternoon for K-12 students as well as DAC, ATODA, Distance Learning, Report Cards/Transcript, ISES/WSLS contact, Carl Perkins coordinator and other titles I may not know about yet. Any ideas to supplement guidance lessons to engage students at our school (who are likely at-risk due to their demographics) and help me teach them life-skills would be greatly appreciated. I want to be as effective as I can with the limited time I have to work with my students. Thanks for the chance at a helpuful free book.

I would give this book to our Church Youth Leader. She is so much fun and inspirational for the youth of our church. She can always use more resources. Please enter me in your delightful drawing. Many thanks, Cindi

This book would be helpful to me because I volunteer with Elizabeth Ministries at my church, and we visit a girls’ home, and we always need ideas for games.

I’m a school social worker and facilitate social skills groups for students with disabilities. I’m constantly trying to find new activities to capture their attention and put a smile on their face. Thanks for the chance!
