When I was Darla’s age, my mom always teased me about “my nose in a book.” And as torches pass, you can bet the teasing continues into this generation.
Now I see her pull out the books that have stayed on the shelf for a couple years, waiting for her to be old enough to comprehend them. She has tried books above her level and gotten frustrated when they’re too difficult. So she puts them away, and then surprises herself as she zips through the book easily just a year or so later.
What a wonderful gift to give yourself – the joy of reading. She gets so excited as she recounts the passages she’s just completed. I have to hide the books we’re all reading aloud together, because if I don’t finish a book in one marathon read, she’s bound to scoop it up and finish on her own. I playfully reprimand her for this, but of course, with regard to reading, what more could a parent hope for?

Oh your comment about hiding the books you read aloud reminds me of home. The Doodlebug will take the books that we decide to read together and read ahead. I love how involved they can become in reading. It’s a passion of mine that I gladly share.
Thanks for the link

I grew up living overseas. Think no American TV. Test patterns from Cyprus were about the best things traveling the airways.
But because of this I grew up loving to read. And it’s a love that I have passed on to all six of my kids.
