UPDATE: Thank you all for your excellent input. It helped me tremendously to hear the varying opinions, as well as your very specific rationale for your choices. If you’re interested in seeing the photo I chose, please check out my “About” page.
I’d love your help choosing my self-portrait.
With my impending book release, I figured it was time to publish an updated portrait of myself, and I’d like you to help me decide which one to use on my “About” page. You’ll notice I was unable to locate the “crows-feet removal tool”.
My Canon is in each of the photos because it’s actually taking the pictures. I can probably crop it out, though if you think that would look better, so please share your thoughts. Don’t forget to vote, by clicking one of the radio buttons below the photos. Thanks for visiting!
If you have an opinion about the camera staying or leaving, here are the photos with the camera cropped out:

I like the shadows in the first one better.
2nd picture has too much camera shadow
third picture not as pleasant an expression
Although,all three are lovely!
4:30 pm
Great feedback, Pamela – I hadn’t thought about the shadows!
6:19 pm
They are all good, but I like #2 the best.
8:14 pm
Number #1! IMO. Good luck with the book
8:27 pm
I picked 3, I liked the natural look you have in that shot. But honestly, all three are great!
Thanks for stopping by the “garden!” Happy WW!
9:09 pm
3 great photos but you look the most real in the first one…
9:24 pm
I like 3, but it’ll be too hard to crop the camera out, so I would go with 1 and crop it.
9:39 pm
Great input here, everyone! Getting your input helps so much!
10:24 pm
Is that a Canon 400D (otherwise know as a Rebel) I spy there?? Great choice in cameras if it is, I have the same!!
I say most definately No. 3, cropped version as well. Do you have CS3 or by using the software (either the Canon OR Zoombrowser) perhaps take out the shadow of it on your cheek…
Thanks for stopping by burntofferings and more at bernies fotoblog.
Have a great WW!!
10:28 pm
I like #2 the best, without the camera.
10:37 pm
all are great but I like the smile in 3
10:48 pm
you look most approachable in #3
11:09 pm
I like the 2nd one best. (w/out the camera)
11:40 pm
It looks like you have a lot of different opinions, but I’ll throw mine in anyway:
The first is by far my favorite. You look beautiful, and as a previous commenter said you look the most “real” in that one too. It would also be very feasible to crop out the camera in that one.
Anyway: Happy Wordless Wednesday!
12:03 am
Number 1’s definitely #1~ happy WW!
12:15 am
I like all three, but if I had to pick one, it’s #1.
And definitely with the camera.
3:55 am
I like all three, but if I had to choose I would use the 3rd picture. Now I am off to find what book you are going to release. Have fun and good luck!

Kelly,
I’m REALLY thinkin’ about this ’cause I know you’re looking for the “one” that will stick around a while. For the record, I LOVE them all–and they all look warmer and more inviting than your previous headshot.
My choice is #3; I know more people are commenting on the “realness” of #1, but…(trying to be specific here) it kind of looks like you’re lunging forward to me. It’s good…but we’re having to look at subtleties and that bothers me a bit (TINY BIT). You look playful but not silly in the last one–there’s more movement, more “life” to it. I can almost feel how silly you must’ve felt during your personal photo shoot (I’ve done these, too, when I was trying to get those earring shots a while back), but you were laughing AT yourself ’cause bloggers are a little crazy!
Ok……..that’s about four cents worth, but you asked, remember? (And you know I probably take this a bit more serious than people flying by on WW ’cause you’re one of my homegirls
).
Or…
just smack me if I’ve said too much
.
5:01 am
I meant to add I like the camera in the shot, too…but either way is fine
.
6:41 am
I just voted and I like your 2nd picture the best! I lean more towards the natural candid look.
8:11 am
looks good. I like the first one myself. Good luck with your book release!
8:43 am
I’ve tried to do this before but they’ve never come out this cute! I like them all but had to pick one! A book? Wow, I am so impressed! Good luck with it!
10:38 am
I love number two! When I voted though they were all running neck and neck.
12:00 pm
Kelly. You’re beautiufl. I voted for the first. I like your picture without the camera. You’re closer without it, and that has a nice effect.
12:52 pm
I actually like the camera in the shot! I am a graphic artist and I took time to look each of these over well. I could help you with the crows feet if you want, but personally, why take away from who you really are? At any rate, I voted for number 2 without the camera because of the shadows cast from the camera when it is cropped out on the other two (although, if you want, this can be taken out of the photo with PhotoShop). I actually like the third one best if you left the camera in the shot. It looks most friendly. I don’t like the first one at all because it looks like the smile is forced. The smile is very genuine on the last photo. I know you don’t know me so my opinion probably won’t hold much weight, but just wanted to throw it out there.
2:12 pm
all 3 are great photos – you have a lovely smile.
Happy WW!
2:32 pm
I think number 3 is the best shot but they are all good!
5:05 pm
My vote is for the first one.
5:25 pm
I like the first one! It will be perfect for your book!
11:51 am
I like #3 best. Go with that one!
11:12 am
I love your choice, it shows such happiness behind those eyes.
Hugs,
Holly
