When we took the boat tour with Captain Randy from Captiva Island, he said we’d go all the way to Cayo Costa State Park. Of course, I had no idea where that was. He took us on a very direct route straight north from the marina, stopping only to visit with some dolphins. He was trying to catch low tide for us.

It was just after a storm, and although we didn’t discover the prized Junonia shell, we scavenged for nearly two hours on the practically deserted beach, discarding numerous beautiful shells we probably would have kept somewhere else.
Craig, ever the treasure-hunter, convinced his dad to go wading to see if they might find even more under the waves. Of course, he thrust his arm into the water clear up to his shoulder before he realized he was wearing a long-sleeved shirt and jacket. It was a chilly ride back.
And as the clouds rolled in, threatening to prepare for another storm, we carried our loot back across the rickety boardwalk to the waiting boat. It was a fun day at Cayo Costa!

Oh my, there are a lot of shells. I am more used to seeing stones on the beaches around the Great Lakes and am excited to have fine sand. Of course, it snowed here today but I can remember the sand at least.

I love hunting for shells. I could do it for hours. Now I have tons of shells from various vacations and I’m trying to figure out a creative way of displaying them.
11:05 am
The pictures are so magical and totally take me back to the shore last summer. Every day was a different experience based on the mood and motions of the sea and what it brought in. Thanks for sharing!
Hugs,
Holly

I bet the time just flew by — it would for me. Is the beach crowded in the warm weather?
9:04 am
I’m like a kid at the candy store when it comes to hunting shells…or is that like a child hunting Easter eggs? Or both??
Either way, y’all didn’t have to look far. To me, THIS is the stuff of which wonderful family memories are made. Great photography just helps you “remember” better :).
