I was looking through old blog posts and came across this one from last December. It was Craig’s letter to Santa. It was his best penmanship at that time. But look at the Santa story he wrote this year. I posted the complete story last week.
Santa writing story

In just twelve months, his handwriting has improved drastically, mostly due to his outstanding third-grade teacher, as well as his competitive spirit in the classroom.

Aren’t before-and-after’s fun?

Mid-month Every Month at PENSIEVE

This month, Robin challenged us with the cinquain form of poetry. She asked us to write within the theme of “celebration.” It’s so easy and fun to write this form, Darla didn’t hesitate to write three poems for her guest post this week.

****FIFTH GRADE GUEST BLOGGER****

CHRISTMAS
Bright, sparkly
Caroling, decorating, partying
Full of happiness
Joy

SANTA
Red, fat
Eating, flying, giving
Jolly old elf
St. Nicholas

PITA
Mean beautiful calico
Hissing, purring, meowing
Very pretty kitty
Baby

The last poem she wrote in secret and gave as a gift to me — even with a bow. What a schmoozer. I think I should give her a raise;)

KELLY
Pretty, smart
Smiling, laughing, whistling
Loves her family
Mom

After the day I’d had, I was thinking more along the lines of:

MOM
Grumpy, frazzled
Scowling, scurrying, screaming
Needs a nap
Medusa

I guess our kids forgive us our trespasses. Selective memory may prove useful:)

Last year, my company, Empowering Youth, sponsored a fundraiser named Linking for Dollars, and we raised $500 for St. Jude. The celebration post and donation receipt is here.

We’d like to do it again.

If you’re not familiar, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is based in Memphis, Tennessee and is internationally recognized for its pioneering work in finding cures and saving children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases.

You can easily help us to raise the funds for this worthy charity. Just send your readers here to leave a comment! I’ll accept your comments from December 20 until Christmas Day, up to a maximum donation of $500 — one dollar per comment.

Our hope is that during the season of giving, you’ll inspire others to give as well – either from their own wallets, or by sending us your readers so we reach our $500 goal. How many dollars will you inspire? Please spread the word!

UPDATE: With your help, Empowering Youth donated $100 to St. Jude. Thank you!

If you’d like to help in another way, this reader is raising funds to help find a cure for his 4-year-old with Type 1 Diabetes.
