Last week I asked you to join me in setting School Year’s Resolutions. Like many families, our life revolves around the school calendar, rather than the Roman one, so I’m making schoolyear’s resolutions – goals I’m setting for myself as we enter the next very busy months of the year. My goals are similar to those I set last year, but a bit more prescriptive. For me, each goal is one designed to give me more personal power over my life.
I believe the better me I can be, the better mom I can be.
1. Organize!
Improve and maintain the organization in our new home, and find systems that help my kids stay organized in their lives as well. Put stuff where it goes, right away. Calmly and regularly remind kids to do the same. Make a monthly calendar for meals, so we all know what to expect and how to prepare.
2. Simplify
Keep my kids on a schedule, as well as myself. Work on working days, write on writing days, run errands on errand days. Make to-do lists for everything and celebrate when they’re completed. Write multiple blog posts once per week, then schedule their posting.
3. Health
Exercise at least a half-hour, at least 2 days per week (note the bike picture in the banner!) Walk more. Take a multivitamin daily.
4. Diligence
As I write this post, I can see bits of madness around my home, so it could be that these goals will be an uphill climb. But even though our crazy life might require us to let some things coast from time to time, I resolve not to “coast” with respect to my kids.
Please join me! Just write your personal goals for the school year, link to this post so others know how to participate, and leave the link to your post in Mr. Linky below. Feel free to use the banner above. And if you need inspiration, visit the blogs below. The first participants helped me in writing my goals this week! You can also choose to write your goals in comments.
The School Year’s Resolution project is a part of this week’s Carnival of Family Life and Carnival of Homeschooling. Check them out!

I love your resolutions! I wish mine were as comprehensive. Thinking past the first few tasks ahead of me is not my strong point. But I gave it a shot. Thanks for doing this!!

You are inspirational, Kelly!
I make a calendar in Publisher each month so I can keep track of school events (and which days there is no school [bummer!])
I am going to attempt to institute the following after school routine: Get in the house, eat a snack and DO THE HOMEWORK/LOOK IN THE BACKPACK!! (Can you tell where the routine falls apart?)
Get back in the habit of making lists.
Thanks for making me actually think proactively, rather than just reacting to the atom bombs that come flying at my from school.

Kelly – a day late but I had most of this drafted yesterday – does that count? *wink*

Every year I resolve to be more organised … but I never quite get there. Although when I think about it, I always cram more things into my day, so I do become more organised, just never quite organised enough!
