[...] While we seem to have made a smooth social and educational transition to public school, I’m finding other transitions to be difficult. Lucky for me, Shannon decided to turn Works-for-me Wednesday inside-out this week — we can ask for advice, rather than giving it. Because of the disastrous start to the school year last fall, I’ve spent a lot of energy making sure the kids had a great start this year. And they have. But I underestimated the impact it would have on our family’s interaction, for me to go to work part-time, and for my kids to begin attending public school. [...]

[...] I would never have guessed that goals set in August could fail just as readily as those declared in January. But I also couldn’t predict that the next twelve months of my life would include a Homeschool Experiment, a book deal, a move, and a new job. [...]

[...] It’s not like I have nothing to do today. There’s the ongoing “move” to-do list, and my new job. But I don’t work Mondays, so I’m taking a moment to ponder yet another milestone (I’ve had a few in the past couple of weeks.) Are you laughing, like you were at the bus stop?
Excellent! I went back to work about 17 years as a SAHM. The worst part was the resume and the interview. You know it's going to be back when they want the address of your last place of employement and you have to say, "It's not there anymore. They razed the building to put up a Wal-Mart." Or they want to speak to one of your former supervisors and you're pretty sure she passed on ages ago.

Best wishes!

My first interview in 10 years

A mom recounts her preparation for her first interview in ten years -- and how her kids helped.

Ha! to Pamela on the "smart" dressing tip :).

Congratulations, Kelly. I toy with the idea of some type of meaningful part-time job, I do miss a professional outlet sometimes :/.

When do you begin? With the start of school?

Next time I interview I'm going to embroidery Einsteins theory of relativity on my blouse. (:
