During our recent trip to the Boston area, we had the pleasure of staying at a bed and breakfast in Middleboro, called On Cranberry Pond. It’s a beautiful and peaceful place, and I’ll show more pictures tomorrow. Today, however, I need to write about scones.
We’d just woke up and packed to leave after our second night there, and I was checking email while D went down for breakfast. But by the time I’d shut down the inn guests’ laptop, I discovered my daughter, clad in a very official-looking apron and serving coffee.
This, ladies and gentlemen, would be an example of D in her glory.

It turns out she’d asked the innkeeper, Jeannine, what she could do to help. The result was probably the most memorable experience of the trip. In addition to playing innkeeper, she got to bake cranberry scones — from scratch.
She mixed and kneaded the dough.

She scored these really cute triangular shapes.
She snuck snacked on apple slices — an ingredient in one of Jeannine’s other gourmet breakfast concoctions.

And we all enjoyed the finished product.
Thanks, Jeannine, for passing the torch!!

What a great experience for D. I would have loved that at her age, too.
And bravo to you for raising a daughter who would offer to help.

That’s a happy helper you have there. If you are ever near where I live, your daughter is more than welcome in our kitchen.

OH MY!! A wonderful lady to allow her to take part – and look at the delight beaming from your daughter. While viewing that first picture, I couldn’t help but beam back.
I think my next trip will include Bed & Breakfasts. I hear so many fun things about them.

Thank you so much for sending the pictures. I don’t normally let anyone cook in my kitchen but there is just something very special about D. You are such a cutie,it was a pleasure cooking with you in the kitchen. You flowed nicely, which is very important when 2 people are cooking in the same area. You are a natural in the kitchen-keep cooking, maybe someday I will see you on TV and I will have a big smile on my face
and to think I gave you my secret recipe, how very special you are indeed! Remember it’s a secret…
