I know I’ve been terribly absent from this blog lately, and from the looks of my calendar and the pile of mail stacked on my desk, that may have to continue for another week. I promise ad-infinitum posts about our adventures in New England, but for now I leave you with a Pass the Torch Tuesday post to celebrate my return home from Boston with D.

After a week away, she was getting a bit homesick — missing Dad and C, as well as her best friend and neighbor. When the boys finally returned home from Canada, we called them from the Salem Inn. D chatted up a storm with Dad and C, pacing in the room, wandering in a way that begged for an 80’s-style spiral phone cord to wind around her legs. She was all smiles as I heard her one-ended conversation about shared-favorite websites and Club Penguin passwords.

And when they’d finished their conversation, and we all said good-bye, she let this slip, about her previously annoying little brother:

“It was good to hear his voice.”

She’ll deny it years from now, certainly. But I’ll remember it always.

You can pass the torch every week, by sharing simple and stupendous times kids make us proud, as well as the ways we see adults passing the torch. Just blog a story or share it in comments. My comment plugin will leave your link automatically. Former PTT posts. Complete Guidelines.
