This is the email I received from my sister-in-law after she kindly hosted C for a visit with his younger cousins, while D had fun with my mom. It was a break in the April madness last month:
Having C here was great. I was prepared for a day of eyes glued to the kids, and had quite the opposite. C was so good with Jackson and Hailey. They did play a lot of trains upstairs and I managed to get about 5 loads of laundry done and folded and put away!!! He was so polite and had such good manners. I usually see C when he is excited to be around all the cousins, at a party etc etc.. it was nice to see a different side of him. He was so gentle with Hailey too. He guided her in the direction she needed to go rather than telling her to “get out of the way!” Jackson had a blast too and cried when he left!
C and D are welcome here anytime!
Another dollar bites the dust.

When my kids went to visit another home, they were always on their best behavior. I always wondered why they didn’t act like that at home. However, your kids seems to be nice kids most of the time.
(I’d love to see an C and D verbal argument documented, however, just to assure me they do it. ha ha)

Hi Beth! Some days I think so, other days, not so much. But on this day, I figured I must have done something right along the way.
And Pamela — you’re looking for a Pass the Pitchfork, aren’t you!! THat should be easy for me to rustle up these days. Believe me – I could document daily arguments!! And it’s very tiring! But today is PTT — a day when I bask in the joy of catching them being good;))
But if you need a reminder, I referee stuff like this every day, although most of the arguments are less humorous and more dramatic: http://2passthetorch.com/2007/01/26/future-debaters/

[...] Yesterday I had to take my four year old to the doctor. He was such a trooper. That visit is the worst because it’s full of all those vaccinations preparatory for Kindergarten and they’re big enough to know what’s going on. I have the worst memory of being near his age and asking my mom if my trip to the doctor would include a shot. I’m sure she knew an answer to the affirmative would result in world war three getting me there so she told me I wouldn’t. Maybe she didn’t really know herself but I’ll never forget going secure in the answer that I would not be getting a shot and then being assaulted with not just a shot but a booster in the backside. I’ve never done shots well, in fact aside from throwing up it’s the only other thing I fear/hate. But I definitely didn’t want my little guy to receive a double assault so after the fun part of the exam was over I told him that the nurses were going to come in and give him some medicine in the form of shots. He immediately sought refuge under my chair and in the little wooden bench saying repeatedly how he didn’t want any shots. He got five. *sniff* [...]

Here’s to dollars biting the dust.
Few things bring as much joy to mother’s ears as hearing that she’s got nice and good kids!
Hugs,

It’s this kind of letter that lets you know that every thing you do makes a difference. I love homeschooling!
