You may know our kids usually bake their own birthday cakes, but their friends usually frost them as well.
For the past several years, we’ve found cupcakes are best for our kids’ birthday parties. It’s less mess and cleanup, and only one gets spit on during the candle blow-out;) But rather than frosting them ourselves, we buy a bagful of frosting, sprinkles, and candies for party goers to decorate their own. My kids will even use food coloring to mix several colors out of one package of white creamy frosting.
It’s a hit as an activity and a treat. Add a pinata, and you’ve got a party!

Hey Kelly,
I just found you from a link at Rocks in my Dryer. Our local paper ran an article about cupcakes being the hot new dessert. There are now several “cup cake bakeries” in town. The kids and I decided that this summer we’re going on a cup cake tour to find the best. Mine are pretty good too, but it is a good excuse to get out!
I’m a writer too…just got an agent. Would love to hear more about your book.

Me too, Pamela!
Nice to meet you Kathy — sounds like a very fun tour! And congratulations on getting an agent. Your site looks great. My book is about youth empowerment (publisher is Search Institute) and is due for release February 2008.

I’ve found the same thing…actually at my son’s we did brownies and they worked great too. Sometimes the simplest things are the best solutions. I can’t wait to get back into my groove with blogging. I’ve been so busy lately and missed the last couple weeks of PTT.
Have a great rest of the week!
Hugs,
Holly
