Reminder: In addition to our regularly-scheduled PTT posts, I’m looking for stories about young people doing great things, as well as the adults who empower them.
On our daily walks during vacation, I recognized a change from past years. This was the first year I could let them go without being nervous.

No more wobbly wheels. No more veering into traffic. No more screaming down the sidewalk.
“Stop!”
“Watch out!”
“CAR!!!!!!!!!!”
With the inevitable passing of time, my kids are growing up. But beyond their improved physical ability, I noticed a marked responsibility as well.
They knew my expectations and followed them.
Wear your helmet without being asked.
Don’t ride farther than you can see me.
Give pedestrians and other bikers the right of way.
Stop if a car will intersect your path.
I trusted them. And for the first time, I enjoyed a leisurely walk.

Be sure to visit Sew What’s Up — the spotlight post from last week. Congratulations Lisa! Email me with your snail address and I’ll send you the Assets magnet.

Ohhhhh, that sounds so nice. My whole day is punctuated with “be careful” and “watch the cars” and “hold my hand” and “watch where you’re going”! Yes, your kids are a few years up on mine but I’m looking forward to it.
Yeah, it sneaks up on you - but there were a whole lot of years with the “be careful” first;))

that was green grass, too.
I noticed that right away.
Oh… and tank tops and bear legs.
Are you happy to be home — back in winter?
At 20 below???? Not on your life!

Currently my little one and I share a bike (she is in front) but she loves it and I get my exercise. Can’t wait to see her off like yours, isn’t it fabulous

It’s always a little bitter sweet isn’t it? It boggles the mind how fast they grow. :O)

I want that and I don’t all at the same time!

Thanks for the honor of being last weeks spotlight! I just sent you an email…
I love walking our rails to trails trail with my kiddos. The Prince rides his bike or scooter & the Princess gets a push in the stroller. We walked almost everyday last summer. I did let him ride to the ice cream shop (ours) on his scooter with out me a couple of times this summer (he went with our 10 year old neighbor & I called ahead to the shop), that was terrifying yet liberating all at the same time!

A true testament that they’re growing up. You have such great kids.

It’s the Lord’s way of teaching us to let go … a little at a time … and also to be prepared to let them take the car on a Friday night! You’ve got about how many years yet???????

A new season in life for you. How wonderful! Deep sigh of contentment.
Could this story work for you - the stories of young people doing great things? If not, I’ll post for a PTT in the future.

Hey Kelly! Robin at Pensieve commented on my post today and suggested that I stop by here. I wasn’t sure why, but now I know - she wanted me to add my post to your PTT list. I have a wonderful story about a “young person doing a great thing.”

Oooo, glad Susan listened :). You’ll love her post, it’s very PTT!
This “rite of passage” is sooo subtle; it’s like you said, it’s something you suddenly realize. I can remember similar thoughts when my babies got to that point.
And “time flies” becomes anything but cliche!
