Each time I hear about a blogger quitting his or her blog, or disappearing altogether, I feel a pang of grief. And I wonder if that could happen to me.
I can barely imagine it – this blog means so much to me. But I suppose, as the responsibilities mount…
Here are some of the Bloggers who have said farewell in the past few months:
Spunky Homeschool – Spunky still visits here and generously offers support and insight.
The Pink Diary – Kailani reinvented herself in an excellent, more anonymous blog.
Chookooloonks – Switched to a photoblog.
What other bloggers have said, “Good-bye?” And why do you think they did it?
Do you think you could ever quit?

I’m still so new to the blogosphere that I haven’t had to say goodbye, permanently. My first taste of that would have been The Pink Diary, but we didn’t have to miss her for too, too long.

I just did a post about my 1 year blogniversary and can’t believe I lasted this long. I’m not sure when I’ll quit, I guess like you said when responsibilities mount.

Yes. There are some days when I question my sanity. And other days I just don’t have anything.
One of my Blogging Friends had one of those mornings and he posted three words “I Have Nothing.”
He got so many comments, that I knew it was a common theme.
The one thing I haven’t been able to have is “moderation.”
I’ve become addicted.

I can see how someone could drop out of the blogging world. It can become time consuming and addicting and that could be a possible drop out reason. Seasons of life can allow for blogging to fit or not fit ones schedule. If a blogger is looking for recogition and not receiving it, that could be a drop out reason.
Which makes me think, why do people blog? That’d be a good poll to take, find out why people, especially moms, blog? If we knew the “why begin” then the “why end” may be clearer?
Also, I got the calendar. I am thankful to not have to pull up my cell phone to look at the date now! Thanks.

Well, I know Mommy Needs a MaiTai is becoming a SAHM and doesn’t have a computer at home. She’ll probably take a break for a while. Drama Queen’s Momma has decided to cut back on her blogging, too. Although, it seems like she stopped altogether. I miss them!
I hope you don’t go anywhere, too!

When Bloggers Disappear
I can’t help but find a worry nerve when bloggers I keep up with suddenly disappear. I totally understand the need for sabbaticals. I think all of us have times when other life demands and schedules will take precedence over our blogging but wh…

Ive disappeared before, but truthfully, I dont think so many people noticed. I enjoy it too much to quit though. Im glad Kailani came back though, it freaked me a bit.
I did have one blogger disappear, and it made me a tad nervous, it was right around the time she was going thru some home issues, and I thought it would have been a time she needed some input.

Hmm? Quitting. I enjoy writing. When I no longer do, perhaps that’s the time I’ll consider quitting my blog.

“What other bloggers have said, ‘Good-bye?’ And why do you think they did it? Do you think you could ever quit?”
Oh, I did quit. I used to blog at Sherbet in a Spoon back in 2003. I don’t remember why I quit. I think it became more of a pressure than a pleasure. When people are expecting something from you sometimes that just becomes unpleasant. Plus, I hate proofreading and am horrible at it. That takes up more time sometimes than actually writing the blog.

I don’t think I could quit blogging, it is “me”, and took me too long to start (Nov 2006). Had 4 going, but just eliminated the last one I started today. I love the other three.

What did happen to Kailani? I miss her and can’t seem to find her now. I need to update my blogroll. I didn’t know about bloggy gossip either.

[...] I was over at Pass The Torch where she posted a very interesting article about people who decide to stop blogging. [...]

Gosh, this seems to be the hot topic right now. I could never think of quitting although I do get awfully tired sometimes. I just read this post about how to know when to stop blogging and had to stop because it was getting depressing!

I have a blogroll set up for ‘retired’ or ‘dead’ blogs and it’s linked on my sidebar. It’s called “Let Sleeping Blogs Lie”. Some of them have disappeared and I don’t know why (”Naked Nerd”). Others are because they found it too difficult to juggle family life and work. Others are for more personal reasons that I’d rather not mention to protect the innocent.
Sometimes I worry that my blog may die because I can’t afford the time to keep blogging, but I love it so much that something else might have to go first. Like housework, love life …. oh wait, it already has! …. ahem… anyhoo it’s a fine balance trying to juggle everything.
I’ve done surveys in the past on my blog about blogging time management. Here’s the link to the results. ICL’s Blogging Survey You can still do the survey too if you want. It’s good for a laugh.

I too am sad when blog friends retire.
I LOVE this world and can’t see me retiring.
On the other hand, I can understand why some do – this is so totally addicting.
And there are soooo many good blogs to read.

Nope. I will never quit. Unless I am found out by my inlaws, and I move to another location.

This is something that’s been bothering me, too. Some of them, such as Laura at Scribble and T at Send Chocolate, I may never know why. Others, such as Dorothy (who has had to restart a couple of times and is in between blogs now), it’s because of nasty people who won’t leave them alone or fallout with family members. I can totally respect having to leave the blogosphere to take care of real life– I just wish they wouldn’t leave without saying good bye…
