And heaven knows I need to set some.
My greatest challenge is in the area of organization. And my little experiment hasn’t helped my plight. Between managing the home and homeschooling my kids, I barely keep my nostrils above water some days. And I have an exciting project that I’ll tell you about next week — it will stretch my attention that much more.
We know the value of putting things away as soon as we are finished with them, but not a single member of this family can get the hang of it. The kids have their chores and they are getting better at doing them on their own, but there are still organizational issues that plague us daily.
So if something works for you, please answer my questions:
What helps you to stay organized? I have a small-ish home and clutter reigns, despite my frequent loads to Good Will.
What books or resources would you recommend? I’ll go on vacation this winter and may have time to read something, if it’s highly recommended.
Are there tasks you pay others to do? I pay an accountant to prepare my taxes, but that’s about all. I’ve seriously considered hiring someone to deep-clean my house once in a while, but I’m having a hard time getting over the cost hump when “I can do it myself.” Suggestions??
If you’re writing your own post about this, please link to it in comments. Thank you for your help!
By the way, if you didn’t hear the great news, together last week, we met our goal for St. Jude.
And remember, it’s CLASSICS WEEK for Pass the Torch Tuesday! If you don’t have a new story to share, please talk about one of your favorites from the past (your own or another blogger’s) and link to it. You can find archived posts with links here and here.

I am working on finalizing my set of goals. I’m a little obsessive/compulsive. LOL
For the cleaning part - I am going to pay a teenager down the street to come over a couple of times a week. He is going to entertain my kids while I clean - keeping them downstairs when I am up, or outside when I am down. It will cost about $10 a week and I can get the cleaning done faster and I won’t have little hands following me around making a mess of whatever I just cleaned up. LOL
Happy New Year!!!

That’s a great idea! Thanks for sharing your excellent idea!

I make a game out of cleaning with the girls. We have a “treasure grab bag” to dig treasures out of when we have a clean house. I’ve also bought all sorts of big plastic see-through containers for their playroom so they can sort their toys and they can see into them so they know what they want when they want it.
They also like to help load the washing machine and the dishwasher!
*My kids are a lot younger than yours, but some of these things might help?*
I think that’s a great idea, especially for younger kids. Thanks!

I’ve gotten less and less organized the older I get.
Good luck (Thats all I’ve got.)

Were you sitting in my brain yesterday?

Organize - lots of cabinets and other things with doors. Then you can throw stuff in them and close the doors - house looks nicer and stuff is out of the way (not neat, but out of the way).
Books - don’t know enough about your taste having just started to read you blog. But I am reading Stephen King’s Dark Tower series and it is fab (not horror really).
Paying - have a lady who cleans my house for 65 a shot. Not very expensive and helps SOOOO much. Also have gardner.
Thanks so much for your thoughts! I completely agree about the cabinet thing - it makes such a difference to be aple to close the door and not see everything!
