If you’d seen my house in the past week, you couldn’t have missed the sea of texts and papers that covered every surface of my life. Now they’re mostly in binders and files, but my curriculum planning madness made me somewhat resemble the nutty professor.
But my kids are unphased by this. They’re mostly concerned about what’s for lunch and how they’ll get to use the whiteboard.
Watching Desperate Housewives, and buried in books on the couch, it brought back memories of freshman year in college – except then I was watching MTV.
In the midst of this preparation, D came up to me and calmly explained, “It’s okay, mom. We’ve been in school for a while, so we know how to do it. We’ll help you out.”
And they do. When C got frustrated because of all the reading we did, D explained to me that in second grade, the teacher usually reads the story aloud first. This is becoming more and more a partnership in learning.
I guess we’ll be all right.
Here’s D’s journal about the first day of our experiment. She’ll be journaling our progress as a part of her writing practice, and as soon as I figure out how to make the pages work, I’ll put up a sidebar link for the series!
Pass the Torch Tuesday Guidelines: Every week, we share simple and stupendous times kids make us proud. Just write about catching a kid being good, link to this specific post (it may ping in comments) or put your link in comments so we can find it, and read everyone’s posts. Or if you’d prefer to share your story in comments, that’s fine as well! Complete guidelines and former PTT links are >HERE< .

I love how very matter-of-fact she was: We’ve done this before, we’ll help you. I also love that you’ll be posting her journal entries.
I have a submission for Pass the Torch over at my blog.

I LOVE this – the partnership idea and that comment of Deena’s was priceless. I think it’s such a great idea that you’re having her journal the experience. I can’t imagine a better piece of input for you and us than this! Way to go mom!
I’m working on my PTT post and hope to have one to contribute later today.
Hugs,

Kelly that’s wonderful that your kids Got your Back! How cool is that, Deena keeping a journal of your adventures in her point of view. Sorry no PTT post for me this week, but you inspired me to do something else. Hope you have a great day!

Wow, congrats on the homeschooling thing! I give you a lot of credit! I don’t think I have the discipline to do it!
