In a hundred and fifty bazillion years, I would have never seen myself writing a review about dishwashing detergent. I mostly tread water in the home-maker department.
So you can imagine my giddyness about being asked to review the Cascade 2 in 1 Action Pacs. They are nifty little pouches of soap that are pre-measured and pre-packaged, so all you have to do is stick one in your detergent dispenser.
We have a few washing challenges here, because we have hard water (thus the red stains in every appliance), and we also have a holding tank that needs to be pumped each month, so we ration our water whenever possible. This means I always use the “light wash” option and I never do a prerinse.
The Cascade 2 in 1 Action Pacs really did a great job. I had a wicked pan from having prepared the sour cream chicken recipe from Tanya’s contribution to Five Ingredient Friday, and I THOUGHT I had pushed the wash button before I went to bed (this is not the first time I’ve been an airhead.) But I hadn’t so the poor Cascade had to go to work on seriously dried-up, caked-on gunk the next morning.
Some of you more finicky chefs might have scrubbed it and sent it through again (but I called it “good enough”.) Honestly, the pan needed a magician, not a dishwasher. The rest of the load was perfect, though. Even heaped with messy dishes and pans, the glassware was more sparkly than I’d seen it in a long time.
The amount of detergent I typically use is quite a bit more, which would make the Cascade 2 in 1 Action Pacs not much more expensive than my current brand. The package I received had 20 pacs and is supposed to sell for about $3.25. Follow this link for $1.50 coupons. I found larger quantities on Amazon
too (can you believe that?)
All in all? Great product, and brilliant public relations team;) If I had a little “torch” graphic, I’d give it four of them.
(FYI, a Cascade representative sent me the sample after I left a comment on Chilihead’s review post.)

I might just have to give those a whirl. DH isn’t a real fan of those tablet things, but I think I could sneak those in here and there.

Hmmmmm…. I wonder if I mentioned that my dishwasher is acting up that someone might send me a new one to try out and critique.
(Dream, Dream, Dream)
You did a lovely job … sparkle meaning no water spots???????

Meredith, I should clarify – they’re not tablets, they’re one part liquid and one part powder. The pouch disintegrates when it the water hits it.
Make sure you use the coupon if you try it! Great deal!
And Pamela – NO WATER SPOTS! That’s quite a feat with our high mineral content.
Yeah, and best wishes with the dishwasher attempt;))

Well, I loved those! I don’t have a dishwasher at the time due to living arrangements but when we get into the new house I will be using them again. We had really hard water as well and they did wonders anyway! Glad you were able to do the review. I have a review coming up soon.

Looks like I need to be trying these. I better check out the coupons.
Thanks for stopping by.

I tried these tablets when they first came out – and my dishwasher at the time was a sorry excuse for an appliance – and it didn’t dissolve the tablet all the way. So – I felt like it was a HUGE waste of money. (I could only use the GEL detergent)
However, when we moved I got an actual working dishwasher – and when I received a free sample at the grocery store, I tried them again. This time they worked great. (Don’t I sound just like an ad?)
