Jan 04, 2006
Today we were inviting friends over so we did only the main stuff. First we did journal, then had a math test. After lunch we folded cloths until our friends got here.
My favorite thing about this week was the car mat. C and I will have fun on that. I liked helping C memorize the continents and a few states. We found Mount Kilamnjaro, St. Augustine, the Great Wall of China and many more things on the world map. We played and index card game and made up a few games too. I hope we continue art class and have a little bit of geography every week.

[…] This week’s theme was geography, which is a subject we could happily study for a month. But instead we’re using a few days of focused lessons as a basis for integrated geography studies throughout the schoolyear. Curt was reading about “communities”, so we also created a “community” play mat for their cars, and according to Deena’s journal, it was a hit. Here are a couple photos of the planning process for our six-foot square play mat. Alas, we ran out of paint, but I hope to show you the final product next week. […]

I have heard that the Great Wall of China is one of the few man made structures that can be seen from outer space.
On Good morning America this week they were presenting the 7 new Wonders of the World
I would have liked to watch that but had to get ready for work (and stop and look at my favorite blogs)
Pamela,
Yes, mom taught us that the Great Wall of China is man made and can be seen from outer space. It must have been tiring and a lot of work. It is amazing what peopple can do. Maybe we should start watching Good morning America, but it might not work because our television is wacky. Thanks for reading my blog,Deena
